8 years of reliable cooling & freezing
One of Europe's most advanced cold storage facilities
Since 2018, Kjellssons Logistik & Transport AB (KLT) has operated one of Northern Europe's most modern cold storage facilities, specializing in meat, fish, poultry and seafood. In partnership with Advansor, KLT installed a high-efficiency CO2 climate solution that has delivered eight years of uninterrupted operation. The facility has integrated shock freezing tunnels, ensuring the highest product quality through rapid temperature reduction.
Following this success, KLT has decided to expand their setup with an additional cooling system from Advansor.
Challenges
KLT required a refrigeration system capable of managing massive cooling loads across a modern high-bay warehouse. Key requirements included:
- High capacity: 1140 kW at -40 °C, 600 kW at -33 °C, and 225 kW at -9 °C
- Reliable pump circulation to reach evaporators installed high up in the warehouse
- Reduced energy consumption compared to traditional systems
Solution
A robust configuration of six SteelXL racks and specialised pump modules was deployed to meet these industrial demands:
- Six SteelXL racks: Three SteelXL 5x5 units for cold storage and three SteelXL 6x5 units (370 kW at -40 °C) for the pumped system
- Blast freezer integration: Six blast freezer cells, each equipped with five evaporators, using pump-circulated refrigerant for maximum efficiency
- Pump modules: Two pumps (one active, one standby) ensuring constant flow to the elevated evaporators
Solution design today
The original system’s eight-year run is a testament to how far CO2 technology has come since 2018. “If we were designing this system today, we would use ultra low superheat instead of the pump modules,” says Anders Mønsted, Business Development Manager at Advansor. “It would deliver an even more flexible and robust operation, without the complexity of managing a pump module or the oil return process back to the CO2 racks.”
This project is a good example of how Advansor’s expertise continues to evolve, even as systems installed years ago continue to perform optimally.
Results
The installation has proven the longevity and reliability of Advansor’s climate solutions. KLT reports that despite nearly a decade of advances in CO2 technology, the original system remains highly effective and “going strong”. The facility has since expanded its capacity to 18,000 pallet positions, meeting growing demand from the food industry with the same stable, high-performance climate solution.
In September 2026, years after the initial installation, KLT ordered a new cooling system to expand their setup, specifically requesting Advansor technology based on their continued positive experience. A new CuBig II will be installed in the near future.
